Curtains

I bought some nice satin cloth for curtains in my apartment.. remember the one from Splash? That's been long complete, no one stays there because I"m not in Pune anymore but it does cry out the need for curtains.. It would certainly give the pegions a little bit of privacy from the shameless people looking out the window at their private life on the window pain.

Its a big apartment and has a lot of windows come to think of it. I will have to sew 18 curtains for the 10 windows. I"ve just finished one window of the laundry. I love the fabric and it looks kind of shiny and nice in when the lights are turned.

The top has a bit of valance type thing hanging down, I'd intended that to be tall (and hopefully stiff) enough to cover the hooks and the curtain rod. But it didn't quite do that. I wanted to buy some 4" canvas curtain strips you get but didn't think they'd be quite worth it considering their price. I did think it was a bad idea during sewing the top part for two reasons: it was clear that the 4" fabric above the hook strip wasn't going to stay stiff and it would have been so much easier for me to just sew along the canvas strip instead of having to measure 5" from the top (1" seam allowance). I was going to sew a straight line stitch for the bottom but thought I'd try the blind hemming foot I had lying begging me to use it for so long and I decided what the heck.. the top wasn't so cool anyway and this is just the Laundry. I love the finish plus it takes up so less of seam allowance (I'd have left 5" if I'd sewn it the more common way here).

After hanging them though I guess I change my mind about the fabric not holding up on its own at the top, I like folded over strip thing.. it looks a bit decorative and no one can really tell that its actually a bit of a blunder.. I'm glad I didn't waste my money on the canvas strips. Although I'm not sure I'm going to sew the rest of the curtains to have the same effect. The color of the curtains isn't really a huge contrast but I didn't really want to obstruct the natural light in the room by putting on dark shades (I'd used super dark and thick shades for 4 years straight not letting any light in and living like a vampire when I was working in night shifts and I'm just so done with the dark colors.). Hope this post will have updates of the other curtains I"ll make (If I do make them)...

Wooo made curtains for two more windows.. I skipped the top 4 inch strip and made it to 1.5" tall so that the strip stands up by its own and sort of conceals the hooks.... and I think I like the first one better.. its really a flaw considering the authetic style.. but I like the look.. I"m not sure what I'm going to do for the rest of the curtains though.

This one for the study room is a little longer as the window is taller than the window in the laundry.

I made these curtains for the Kitchen window. I love the fabric its three large stripes of colors and you can adjust the curtains to pick the lighter or darker shade per the lighting you're looking for:

I wish that was three windows but its just one window with the curtains bunched up picking the lighter and the darker shade... now there're are only 7 more to go... I already know.. 'not happening'.
