Tall Stool (not-so-)Refurbished

I am doing a lot of back and forth between two cities, my hometown and Pune and I brought my sewing machine along with me to my empty apartment in Pune. Just so I could keep it on something and not kil my back, I brought along a very old stool from my family (probably passed down from my great great grandad.. not really :)

It looked hideous with al the cemetna dn paint it had on it and I was so inspired by Lolly's post about redoing an old scary chair that I thought I could get similar results.. Guess I should just retire from crafting.. Just because I see all those wonderful craft items on the blogs doesn't mean I can get their replicas that would look anywhere near that awesome stuff.... I am proud of my hard owrk nonetheless and am going to post what I did.

So here's the old stool in all its antique glory..

I bought three grades of sand papers hard, medium and fine. And got onto sanding off the top.. The cement just won't come off with the sandpapers so I cheated and pretty much killed one of mum's kitchen knives scraping the cement off.. Once most of the cement waas off, I used the knife a little bit more just because it was faster and so much more fun than the sand papering.

I put on two coats of primer and decided that the stool had enough primer when I had primer in my hair and nails.

I wanted a spray paint I could use and didn't quite think it would be as translucent as it turned out to be. I guess I put on about 4 coats and the friendly ghost had to get me away from the house so I could stop adding coats over wet paint. After watching a movie, Ramleela, and most of the paint was dry, I think I added two more coats. I didn't really take photos after each new coat, but here's the finished product... What was I thinking!! Yellow!!! urgh.. didn't really have much of a choice.. there was gold, silver and orange spray only available..

I wanted to skip having to paint with brush and I guess I might have to do it anyway.. Then again, I might just leave the stool as is.. I don't mind an egg yolk yellow stool suporting my lovely sewing machine.. who knows.. I may just be inspired to use colors I"ve been dreading thinking they're too gaudy... Guess everything happens for the best.

I always feel like posts should have the before and after photos side by side at the bottom so I don't have to scroll back all the way up to see the before... Anyhow.. so here's my before and after... not exactly sure which one's better :D
