Oh and here's a make-up bag heaven link!
-----------------
The above write-ups from yesterday and I"d basically written it up so I'd actually end up doing some sort of something rather than sit (or sleep or lounge more like) thinking about what I'm going to sew for hours and days on end...
So I was all set to sew a prism pouch but saw its pattern and thought that would have me cutting into the fat square and end up with some wastage (I mean after cutting out the triangular flaps).. See I"m from India where the fabric is sold at less than a dollar a meter. And having spent over $2 for a 'fat' quarter (notice.. no obscenities there!), I wasn't quite prepared to have bits of fabric I couldn't use because of a triangular pattern.. so I scrapped both the idea of making a prism pouch as well as of using a fat quarter for the project... Instead I used some brocade that cost me less than the cotton FQs but is so much more prettier.
I wasn't quite sure of what purpose it was going to serve and my procrastinator self didn't want to embark on a project which I didn't even need and hence may never use it. And I thought while I was on the vacation to India I'd carried my sanitary pads in a plastic bag inside the laungrie bag (I so need a bigger one for longer stays.. just in case) and thought aha! There's my 'need'. I measured the 12-pack box containing the pads and divided its depth by 3 (I wanted a pouch to carry just 4 pads... if I wanted to carry more along with me on the journey I could just take the whole box.. or even better.. buy one at the destination).
I can post the pattern I used which would fit an A4 page but I think this project is a little bit more about 'winging it' than going by the pattern and instructions... Besides I still have NOT figured out how I"d sew the lining and the outer fabric away like you do on most projects so there are no fraying seams exposed so I"m not sure anyone would like to try it anyway... you can achieve almost a similar and a much more professional result with those boxy pouch tutorials.
I can't believe I'm going on talking about what I mean instead of just showing what I mean:

I used extra frayable cloth for both the external as well as innre fabric.. result.. my uncovered seams are like Moses' beard on the inside. Also I'd cut the pattern with a generous 1/2" seam allowance and I never use 1/2" for seam allowance even when the pattern and instructions tell me to.... so you can guess what hapenned.. The pouch was meant to hold 4 but now confortably holds 8 pads... :D I"m not complaining.. even with all those you can see in the photo how compact it looks... It measures 4.5 x 3.5 x 2. Its quite tiny and looks like a camera bag.. Now I"d definitely not be bothered if this pouch happens to pounce out of the bag like my red colored lacy bra always happen to just fall's off everytime at the Laundry.. and I'm like Why!!! why this one!
